Trump: U.S. Can’t Afford Veterans’ Health Care Without Cuts

Last year, the Trump administration insisted that its regressive tax cuts were so important, it was worth adding $1.5 trillion to the national debt to ensure their passage. Now, the White House is warning Congress that the United States cannot afford to add $1.6 billion to the deficit to expand health-care options for veterans.

  1. It’s a bit late for the blindingly obvious discovery that if you collect less taxes (and inevitably rack up more debt as a consequence) there is less money for welfare provisions. How anyone (still less a real estate billionaire investing Daddy’s money) would be surprised by this “Duh!” moment is beyond me. Next Mr Trump is going to be astounded that slapping tariffs on Trade partners is going to interfere with US supply chains and that even worse these dirty foreigners are going to reply so that their own tariffs and goods will cost more in the US as a consequence (ie more than the saved taxes). Even worse the new hard US is going to be discovered as a less attractive trade partner than those with more relaxed Trade rules and everyone in the US loses.
